Turns out there was something yesterday so I rolled the laptop back to before that. Okay I thought and checked if there was any update that might have gotten installed by rebooting the thing. Even the task manager was just a blank window for 5-10 seconds before anything else showed up. Tabs took ages to load (not the internet connection that works just fine at 25mb/s). Once rebooted the lag was worse, not to say horrendous to get from the windows lockscreen to the desktop after entering the password took at least three times as long, after klicking the icon it took about 2-3 seconds to respond and opening the program took ages - first time I saw the loading wheel with this laptop.
Just as the system was shutting down an error window popped up with an awful lot of numbers and the only word I could catch glimpse of was 'breakpoing' or 'breakingpoint' - but the screen turned off pretty much the same instance as that showed up. Since it had been a while since the last actual reboot I decided to do just that. When I returned and woke it up I noticed that things were somewhat laggy. So, about three or four hours ago I left my laptop sitting on the desk as usual and left it alone for about twenty minutes.
